Why We Call It Eco Cork Foam

For Eco Cork Foam, eco-friendly refers to how it’s made, where it’s made, what’s in it and, most certainly, what’s not in it.

It’s in our name, and it’s in our product. Eco Cork Foam is eco-friendly through and through. But, what does that really mean? For Eco Cork Foam, eco-friendly refers to how it’s made, where it’s made, what’s in it and, most certainly, what’s not in it.

FSC Certified Cork
ECF is made using cork that has been certified by the FSC, an international, non-profit, multi-stakeholder organization, established in 1993 to promote responsible management of the world’s forests. This means that the cork in Eco Cork Foam has been grown, managed and harvested with special care and stewardship of the earth’s natural resources.

Antimicrobial Protection
ECF is infused throughout with antimicrobial protection. We don’t simply coat the top or bottom of the material, it’s built into the underlayment material. It prevents the growth of microbes, which means that no mold, mildew or other microbial material will be brewing under your floor.

Ultra-Low VOCs
VOC stands for Volatile Organic Compounds, and these harmful compounds can easily become vapors or gases, which can harm indoor air quality. In rigorous testing, ECF demonstrated Ultra Low VOCs. In other words, there were barely enough VOCs to register. In fact, ECF has such minimal VOCs that it surpasses North America’s most stringent standards, California’s Section 01350.

Made in the USA
The USA has some of the highest standards when it comes to indoor air quality and environmental safety. Because ECF is made in North Carolina, you can rest assured that we follow, and often exceed, strict EPA guidelines when we manufacture Eco Cork Foam.

No Proposition 65 Chemicals
Beginning in 1987, the State of California has published an annual list of chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. Proposition 65 requires that this list be updated and published at least once a year. Since its initial publication, this list has grown to include approximately 800 harmful chemicals. When you use ECF, you can rest assured that no Proposition 65 Chemicals are used in manufacturing ECF.

We often talk about the performance benefits of ECF Underlayment, because it so readily outperforms the competition in every way. But, for many people, the most important features are the things you don’t see and the things that aren’t part of the product. ECF was engineered to be eco-friendly, to be family and pet friendly, because we want our product to be part of your home, and while we’re at it, we want all of our homes to be more sustainable.
